I’m Dave Drew, a photographer based in Wiltshire with a lifelong connection to dogs and many years spent photographing them.

 

My approach to these portraits grew from a desire to create something different — photographs with the presence, depth and atmosphere of traditional painted portraiture. Rather than simply recording what a dog looks like, I want to create something that captures something of who they are.

This is deliberately a small and personal body of work. I take on a limited number of commissions, allowing me the time to photograph each dog carefully and individually develop the finished portrait.

Dogs have been part of my own life for decades, and I know that the portrait on the wall is never simply a picture of a dog.
